Tomorrow's event is cancelled.

We appreciate that this will be disappointing news. We have been working hard on the ground over the last few days in our delivery phase and everything is ready to go. It is a big shame.

We will send you an email later today with further information.

1300, Thursday 04.04.2023

Due to the forecast conditions (strong winds and rain) we have now decided to move to contingency plans for Saturday's event. Our current hope is to still run the event but the assessment is of course ongoing and we can never rule out a cancellation.

NB: The details listed here supersede any information you may read elsewhere on this website, the participant manual or 3rd party websites.

Contingency route: We will be moving to the contingency route; this will be 42 miles and will be an out and back of the north of the peninsula.

To view the route (and download the GPX file); please visit the Routes tab and select "Contingency" from the drop down in the top right hand corner of the map view. The link to download the GPX file is located in the top right hand corner of this view also.

The purpose of this change is to keep away from the more exposed parts of the peninsula (the end and southerly side), based on the southerly wind direction.

Contingency start time: We may also drop the start time back by a few hours if this is beneficial - however at this time it is not clear this would be an improvement.

We will post another update by 1300 hrs tomorrow. Please continue to refer back to this tab.

1900, Wednesday 03.04.2024

Weather update: The weather forecast for Saturday hasn't changed much over the last 24hrs and looks fairly set; strong 30+ mph southerly winds (gusting to 50+) with significant rain. Although we can never rule out a cancellation due to weather conditions, even at the last minute, we are still hopeful this won't need to be the case.

Our current hope is to still run the event as published but realistically we are likely to move over to contingency plans in the next 24hrs if the forecast doesn't improve.

We have a few options to keep away from the most exposed sections of the peninsula based on the southerly wind direction. The most likely change of these would be to move to an out and back of the north of the peninsula. This certainly won't give you the full impact that this event should - but at least it will keep the competition alive and enable you to enjoy the trails. If you wish to view the likely contingency route then please visit the Route tab and select "Contingency" from the drop down in the top right hand corner of the map view.

We will post a further update regarding the weather within the next 24hrs. This will be posted here (to the Updates tab).

We are keeping a careful eye on the weather forecast for this Saturday. Currently there is a significant amount of rain due to come in, as well as strong winds. Please remember to keep referring back to this tab for all event updates!

An email update has been sent out today to all registered participants. This update details the most recent changes to the event.

1600, Wednesday 13.03.2024

We are delighted to let you know that the event will now be based from (close to) The Railway Pier off Harbour Road in Bantry (please see the event manual for more details). This is a great location as it is easy to access, easy to park and we know the majority of you are staying over in the town.

An email will go out to all participants by the end of the week detailing the changes.

We are looking forward to hosting this inaugural event! Unfortunately we have had the permission on the event site rescinded a couple of weeks ago. We are currently working hard to secure a new site and we have some good options which would work very well. Please watch this space.

1600, Wednesday 07.09.2022

Unfortunately dogs are not permitted on the Sheep's Head Way due to the abundance of wildlife (sheep and goats!) on the peninsula and therefore will not be allowed at this event.

0900, Thursday 01.09.2022

Don't forget to click "attending" on the official Facebook Event.

0900, Thursday 01.09.2022

Check-in! : We will be asking all registered participants to check in online approximately two weeks from the event. The Check-in process will result in a simpler event experience for you by removing the usual on-the-day administration. Amongst other things, within the Check-in process we will be asking you to watch the mandatory event safety video.

This new 50 Mile Ultra around the Sheep's Head Peninsula in the South of Ireland is sure to get hearts pumping!

Recognised as a European Destination of Excellence the peninsula is remote, wild and unspoilt. The route follows the varied terrain of the Wild Atlantic Way and includes a daunting 2250m of elevation gain.

This Ultra Marathon represents a strenuous but fulfilling test for the ambitious trail runner - set in a beautiful, unspoilt and largely unknown location.

Now the longest distance event in the Endurancelife collection, this one is not for the fainthearted! Entries are limited to just 100 participants for this, the inaugural event.

Virtual : Don't forget to connect with us via the official Facebook Event where you can select "Going" or "Interested" or via our Strava Event. Here you can network with others and join in the conversation by asking questions and advice.

In Person : Due to the nature of this long distance event there will be a very wide finish window. As such, it isn't really practical to hold an official post-event gathering as the team will be working late into the evening. There are lots of great places to eat in Bantry however, mainly around the South West of the harbour - and we do recommend taking a drink in The Snug!
