Check-in is now open! Participant email "Northumberland 2021 : Check-in open!" has been distributed (all events). To access Check-in simply follow the link provided in your email or log in to your online account and select the ENTRIES tab > Northumberland > Check-in. Check-in closes at midnight on Sunday the 16th.

Important notice re changes due to a linear format event and optional coach service:

We are excited to have reverted back to a linear format event! Many of you have emailed in so we know you are too. This means that your start location is now different from the finish (Bamburgh). In order to make this format change work we hope that a great many of you will be able to arrange your own drop-off and collection at the event (as opposed to choosing to use the coach service option, as detailed below). Travelling to your start under your own steam will save you significant time on event day morning as you will be able to travel directly there as opposed to having to travel to Bamburgh first to then catch the coach.

What to do I need to do now?

All the details relating to these changes are contained within pages 5 to 9 of the Participant Manual. Please read these now. Having read this, if you then require the optional coach transport, then please visit the Add-ons tab where you can secure your seat. If you don't require it then you don't need to do anything. Due to covid rules and passenger limits on coaches you must purchase a seat on the coach at least two weeks in advance of the event (by the 15th of May) so numbers can be finalised. In normal years the cost of coach transport is included in the entry fee but due to spacing rules on coaches we will require twice the carrying capacity. We are therefore splitting the cost between you the participant and us the organisers and this is why there is a £3 fee attached. Please don't delay in making your plans!

When do I complete online Check-in?

Check-in for this event will open from the 13th to the 16th of May. We will email you a reminder on the 13th. The Check-in process is super easy and will result in a simpler event experience for you by removing the usual on-the-day administration. Within the Check-in process we will ask you to: 1) Confirm your preferred postal address to enable your participant number and electronic timing tag to be posted out, 2) Watch the mandatory event safety video and 3) Give us an indication of your ability so we can calculate your individual start time.

Linear format! We are delighted that we now feel able to safely return to a linear format event. We hope this is good news for you. We have now updated the routes on the site to reflect this. Our original concerns were over shared coach transport. We now feel, with the appropriate measures and quite a few planning changes, these issues can be safely managed. We will be sending an email out over the next few weeks when we have completed the necessary detail.


1300, Friday 26.02.2021

Better lace up those trail shoes! We are delighted by the timetable announced earlier this week by the UK Government. Outdoor organised sports in England can restart from the 29th of March (*1). This means that it should be all systems go for this event on the 29th of May! Indeed, even if the published timetable were to slip a little there is a clear two months of contingency on the timeline. We look forward to seeing you on the start line!

(*1) Such activities will have to conform to the prevailing social distancing measures on gatherings of groups (within an event / activity setting).

This event has now been postponed from the 27th of February to Saturday the 29th of May 2021. Please await a personalised email from us before contacting us with any individual questions.


2000, Friday 08.01.2021

Due to the latest national lockdown this event is unlikely to go ahead on the currently scheduled date of Saturday the 27th of February. The favoured contingency date for this event is Saturday the 29th of May. Please look back here mid next week for a further update.

Check-in! [New] : We will be asking all registered participants to check in online approximately two weeks from the event. The Check-in process will result in a simpler event experience for you by removing the usual on-the-day administration. 1600, Monday 11.05.2020

Due to Covid we have changed the published routes for the 2021 event. The new routes are based on a looped format rather than the historic linear format; this has been done to remove the need of shuttle bus transport (moving participants to the start). If social distancing limitations permit we will consider reverting back to the linear routes closer to the event date.

The Northumberland coastline boasts some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in the UK and is best known for its sweeping sandy beaches, rolling dunes, high rocky cliffs, and isolated islands. This striking landscape is steeped in history and there are few sights on earth that compare with Bamburgh Castle and its expansive and exposed bayside setting.

A host of conservation sites, including two National Nature Reserves, testify to the great variety of wildlife and habitats found in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Once here, you will feel as far removed from the pressures of modern life as it is possible to be, so lace those trail shoes tight, take a deep breath and tune into the wind and waves as you let the stunning widescreen panorama unfold!

In Person : Social distancing measures permitting, there will be an informal post event gathering at The Castle Inn, Bamburgh. The Endurancelife Team will be there from 2000 to hear your stories from the day and to share a well deserved drink! Participants, supporters and friends are all welcome.

Never be locked in

  1. Cancellation: You will always be given a full refund (no fees or charges) if the event has to be cancelled due to Covid-19. Your entry will never be ‘rolled over’ to a subsequent year unless you want it.
  2. Postponement: You will always be given the following three options should an event have to be postponed (date changed) due to Covid-19. You will have one week from the date the event is postponed to make your choice:
    1. Accepting the new event date (this is the default option if you make no choice).
    2. Transferring to one of our other event locations for any date in the future.
    3. A refund (less a booking & card processing fee which will never be more than £10).
  3. If your plans change or you simply change your mind:
    1. You can receive a full refund (no fees or charges) should you change your mind within 30 days of booking (*1). No questions asked. To do so; log onto your account > Orders > Select the desired order number > Cancel > Confirm. It’s as simple as that. (*1 for bookings made more than 3 months prior to the event).
    2. You can chop and change between our whole events portfolio at any time. Just make sure you do this more than 30 days before the event you are booked on to. To do so; log onto your account > Orders > Select the desired order number > Change > Select the desired (new) event.
  4. A change in the tier system prohibiting travel or participation: If you can't attend due to a last-minute local lockdown where you live then you can opt to move your event entry to another event at a later date. If this is after the online change window closes (30 days prior to the event, point 3.b above) then this request must be instructed via email (see Contact page) with proof of address provided (a redacted cover page of a utility or council tax bill or similar):
    1. No later than 48 hrs before the event date and,
    2. No later than 7 days after a planned local lockdown has been announced (failure to do this limits our ability to offer your entry space to someone on our waitlist who is not in a restricted area).

Never be within 2 meters of anyone else

  1. No event staff will come within 2 meters of any participants:
    1. RFID electronic timing removes the need for close personal contact.
    2. Checkpoints (aid stations) operate on a self-serve basis; all items will be individually bagged / bottled with gloved staff keeping their distance but there if you need them.
  2. Receive your participant number and electronic timing chip in the post ahead of time or collect on the day, your choice.
  3. Watch the event Welcome and Safety Video online 24hrs before the event from your phone or laptop.
  4. Join in with our mass start or choose a time-trial start for yourself or your group. Either way you can enjoy watching the online leaderboard update throughout the event day to see how you fare against the competition.

Although there are a raft of other changes we have put in place we hope the examples above clearly demonstrate our priorities to you. All changes will be in place across our portfolio of events for the foreseeable future, most likely until the end of 2021.

NB Any parking permits listed below will come in pdf form linked within your confirmation email. These do not need to be printed but can simply be presented on your smartphone upon arrival.

Event Safety Kit @ £10.00 This kit contains: 1 x Whistle, 1 x Foil blanket, 1 x Sterile dressing, 1 x Antiseptic wipe, 2 x Plasters. Collection in person at the event. The option to purchase this add-on will close on the 21st of May.
All Day Parking @ £2.00 Use this add-on if you wish to park your vehicle at the finish (Bamburgh) all day. This will be necessary if you plan to leave a vehicle and take the coach transport, for example. NB Parking up to an hour is free (e.g. for drop-offs and collections). The option to purchase this add-on will close on the 27th of May
Coach Transport : Ultra @ £3.00 Use this add-on if you wish to take the optional coach transport to the start of the Ultra. The option to purchase this add-on will close on the 15th of May.
Coach Transport : Marathon @ £3.00 Use this add-on if you wish to take the optional coach transport to the start of the Marathon. The option to purchase this add-on will close on the 15th of May.
