Shelterbox Challenge
>> Stage 1
Dartmoor

ShelterBox is a charity based in Cornwall that delivers boxes of survival equipment to people displaced by natural and other disasters anywhere in the world. Each ShelterBox contains essential equipment that aids survival in the days and weeks that follow a disaster. The speed at which help reaches victims is crucial.

The ShelterBox Challenge Series is designed to give participants a taste of the challenges commonly faced by the SRT’s when on deployment, as they work to get the boxes to the people who need them.  It also helps participants to understand the value of the contents of a ShelterBox when it’s all they have to provide shelter, warmth and hope.

Overview

The ShelterBox Challenge Dartmoor is a tough but fun two day adventure event in which teams of four navigate their way across the wilds of Dartmoor National Park. Each team must deliver a loaded ShelterBox to its final location in the shortest time possible, using only their skills and the contents of the box to survive! At each check points the teams are presented with a variety of physical and mental tasks that will test the groups’ ability to problem solve, make decisions and work together.

Location

Dartmoor is a staggeringly beautiful place; it is home to the highest peak in southern England and covers some 368 square miles.  It is the wildest and largest area of open country in southern Britain and was one of the 1st National Parks to be designated in Britain in 1951.

Dartmoors landscape is made up of rough grazing land, wooded valleys, and distinctive granite tors, it is a genuine wilderness area and offers huge potential for adventure and inspiration. In order not to put this sensitive landscape under undue pressure we limit the number of places, so to avoid disappointment please book early.

Terrain

The terrain that each team will have to tackle along with their ShelterBox will include rivers, woodland, gorse lined paths, bogs and steep ascents and descents and granite tors.
