Disciplines
Kayaking: Endurancelife provides all the kayaking kit and safety equipment you will need for a MST. We use our large fleet of sit on top kayaks which are very easy to use and practically unsinkable. If you have no kayak experience, don’t worry. As long are you are relatively fit and can swim confidently, you won’t have a problem. Kayaking takes place on estuaries, lakes, or rivers.
Running:
Running at its best, on all types of terrain. The course can be challenging and include: footpaths, coastal paths, bridleways, and roads. It could be muddy so bring your trail shoes!
Mountain Biking: You will need to provide your own mountain bike and helmet for this stage. The MTB section can involve taking on bridleways, forest tracks, roads and farm tracks. Road bikes are unsuitable, unless you are prepared to carry your bike round the course!
Navigation: No Navigation required! Hooray!

History
The Multi-Sport Trailathlon was Endurancelife’s original race format and was created to provide a fun alternative to triathlon and adventure racing that combined the best elements of both. It’s principally based off road, following a marked course, where participants can enter as a solo entry or team of two.
The event is fun, simple and very accessible. You simply grab your mountain bike, visit a cool location and have a blast on the trails and water. You’re not reliant on being a strong swimmer, having navigation skills or finding other team members to take part. With the inclusion of the ‘Sprint’ category, it is a great way for beginners or newcomers to experience a fun day of multi-sport racing. |

Event Format
The MST format is beautifully simple. Just arrive at the event race base with your mountain bike, helmet, and personal trail kit in good time to register. Take in the atmosphere and get ready for the off! First off you will take to the water for the kayaking stage, next is running, and finaly mountain biking. All along exciting pre-marked multi terrain courses. The start, finish, and transitions between the disciplines all take place at the race base. Your total elapsed time and stage splits will be recorded automaticaly by our clever timing system. After you cross the line it is time to grab a cold beer and a burger from the BBQ! |
| |
Transition Area
After each stage, participants return to the race base area to transition between disciplines. Here there will be a sectioned-off area where participants can leave their personal transition bags. During the race participants will have access to these bags. These will contain any personal kit that you choose to use during the day, specific to each discipline undertaken. This bag should only contain kit that you require during the race, and should be clearly labeled and identifiable, so that you can access it quickly and easily between stages.
Please note: the clock will continue to run between stages.
|
| |
Race Base
At the race base you will be able to grab a cup of tea, coffee, sports drink or banana for that pre-race boost. If you’ve forgotten any bit of kit, don’t worry, we’ll have all the essentials available for that last minute crisis. After you’ve completed the course, come and grab yourself a beer and something to eat from the BBQ. Catch with up with other competitors, the EL Team, and soak up the evening sun! |
| |
Sport Ident
Each participant wears a small Sport Ident electronic ‘dibber’ attached to their wrist for the duration of the event. At each checkpoint and transition the ‘dibber’ must be inserted into an electronic timing station which records the time and provides proof of passage through that point. At the end of each day the accumulative time is downloaded and used to determine overall position. Please note; the event director may occasionally deem it necessary to ‘stop the clock’ and introduce short breaks between stages for safety reasons. |
| |
Prize Categories
For each distance category the following categories will be awarded prizes:-
1st / 2nd / 3rd Solo Male / Female
1st / 2nd / 3rd Team of 2

Safety Note
MST events are physically challenging and take place whatever the weather. Although you must be capable of maintaining concerted physical effort for an extended period of time the events are very achievable if the correct training and preparation is undertaken. It is important that you are both fit and aware of the demands the event will make of you. If you would like to take part in an event but are unsure about your fitness levels or it’s suitability for you, please give us a call for a chat. |

Kayaks
We have a large fleet of quality Sit on Top (SOT) kayaks for use in this event. These single and double kayaks are rigid, stable and practically unsinkable. They are supremely well suited to adventure racing and have been specially selected for their good all round performance and portability. If you have limited or even no previous kayaking experience these boats are very simple to master and paddling in a straight line is simple owing to the latest hull designs. Quality paddles and buoyancy aids are also provided. |
| |
Bike
Due to the terrain you may encounter on a MST, it is not possible to use a road bike – it will not survive! A mountain bike with good tyre tread and front suspension forks is well recommended.
If you don’t own a mountain bike or feel that your mountain bike is not up to it, you can always hire one from us. We have a fleet of new Kona Blast hard tail mountain bikes that are ready to hit the trails. Click HERE for more details! Or contact us to reserve one. |
